More Than 1,600 New COVID-19 Cases In Massachusetts

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported another 1,629 confirmed cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, bringing the state's total number of confirmed cases to 158,937.

The state DPH also confirmed another 27 deaths among confirmed cases. To date, there have been 9,836 deaths among confirmed coronavirus cases in the Commonwealth.

According to the DPH, most of the new COVID-19 cases reported in Massachusetts over the past two weeks have been confirmed in people under 19 years of age.

Between October 18th and October 31st, more than 2,800 cases in the state were confirmed in teens and children, and around 2,700 cases were confirmed in people aged 20-29. Over the same time period, 425 cases were confirmed in people aged 80 or above.

The state's seven-day average rate of positive molecular coronavirus tests is at 1.86 percent, which is almost double the rate it was a month ago.

According to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Research Center, the U.S. has confirmed nearly 9.5 million cases of COVID-19, and more than 233,000 Americans have died of the virus to date.
