BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health confirmed another 7,424 cases of COVID-19 from Friday and Saturday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Commonwealth to 335,731.
The state DPH said it did not release COVID-19 data on Christmas Day, so the information released Saturday included newly reported cases from the previous two days.
The DPH also reported another 46 deaths among confirmed cases of the virus, upping the state's total confirmed death toll to 11,752. There have also been 258 deaths among probable cases.
More than 78,000 cases of the virus are estimated to be active in Massachusetts, according to the DPH. The state's seven-day average rate of positive coronavirus tests has risen slightly to 6.32 percent.
The state's average number of patients hospitalized with the virus has more than doubled in the past month. There are currently more than 2,000 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.
According to the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center, nearly 19 million cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the U.S., and more than 331,000 Americans have died of the virus to date.
