BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Astronomical odds against winning tonight's massive billion-plus-dollar Mega Millions drawing aren't stopping lottery hopefuls from taking a chance.

The $1.05 billion prize is a huge sum of money, but according to lottery officials, it's actually the fifth prize topping $1 billion since 2021, and there was one jackpot reaching $2.04 in 2022.

The old adage "You can't win if you don't play" rang true when talking to local residents who were lining up today for their tickets.

There was lots of confidence displayed. "I've got the winner right here," said one as he bought his ticket. And along with that confidence, some common-sense as well. "Just give me one percent and I'll be happy," he said. "I'm not greedy."

By the way, the lottery says the chances of winning tonight's jackpot are about one in 300 million.
