MEDWAY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Development coaches for USA Luge stopped by Medway to search for new talent on Sunday.

USA Luge travels the country to find new members between 9 and 13 years old for their development team coached in Lake Placid, New York. There are only two luge tracks in the United States.

In order to test out potential new talent, they put roller-skate wheels on the sleds. The modified sleds can go up to 30 miles per hour on the asphalt track.

USA Luge development coach Aidan Kelly taught the dozens of kids in attendance how to do it.

“The majority of people who come to these events have never seen a luge,” said Kelly. “Athletes who excel here will be asked to come to a tryout in Lake Placid where they’ll get to do the sport on ice.”

WBZ’s Suzanne Sausville (@wbzSausville) got to test her skills on the track on Sunday.
