New Bedford, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — New Bedford Police have charged two people after a video of them allegedly abandoning a puppy made the rounds on social media.
Police said the incident happened on Monday.
Video from a Ring doorbell camera on Allen Street captured what appeared to be a woman opening the door of an pick-up truck, releasing a dog onto the sidewalk, and saying "Take care, buddy," before getting back in.
One commenter claimed to be the woman in the video, and said the whole thing was a misunderstanding, but later deleted that comment. The video has notched around 650 comments and shares, and police called the response "overwhelming."
New Bedford Police charged two people on Tuesday — a woman, charged with animal cruelty, and a juvenile, charged with animal cruelty and witness intimidation.
The dog has been taken in by New Bedford Police Animal Control, and is in good health.
