BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The New England Aquarium held the annual Right Whale Festival on Sunday. The free event was meant to raise awareness about the critically endangered species.

“This is cool. I was not aware how endangered the right whale populations in the Atlantic were. It’s good to see that there are groups that are out here promoting their conservation,” festival attendee Taylor said.

Taylor was just one of hundreds who stopped by the event.

Students of all ages were honored for their conservation work at the festival. Falmouth High School senior Emily took the gold award for her art exhibit sculpture.

“I enjoy animal conservation and trying to protect wildlife. And then also being a ceramic student, I thought what a great opportunity to use both,” Emily said.
