BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — It is a celebration of two New England institutions.

Dunkin' opened its inaugural "Signature Series" store at 530 Commonwealth Ave. in Kenmore Square Wednesday. The store, which features a large mural, pays tribute to the longstanding partnership between Dunkin' and the Boston Red Sox.

Wally the Green Monster was on hand to pass out free donuts with baseball frosting. Red Sox President Sam Kennedy and former Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield made appearances as well.

"It’s like salt and pepper, right?" Wakefield said regarding the relationship between the team and the restaurant.

"It’s kind of iconic for Bostonians to share their passion for Dunks everywhere," Wakefield continued. "There’s a definite connection with the Boston Red Sox and Dunks. It’s in the clubhouse, it’s everywhere."

Also at Wednesday's event, the Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation shared a $5,000 check donation to the Jimmy Fund.
