BERLIN, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A husband and wife were arrested Tuesday in connection with an abandoned dog found on a bridge, New Hampshire State Police said.

On Jan. 1, 2023, police responded to a report of a stray brindle colored hound dog located dangerously close to the edge of a bridge on North Road in Shelburne. The dog was safely taken into custody and transported to the Woodlands Veterinary Clinic in Lancaster, then to the care of the Riverside Animal Rescue in Lunenburg, Vermont.

The dog, now named Coco, carried no tags or identification at the time. After posting on social media and receiving tips from the public, police arrested the dog's owners, Travis Melton and Jessica Allen of Berlin, New Hampshire.

Melton and Allen were both charged with Cruelty to Animals. Both were released with an arraignment date on March 8, 2023.

According to Riverside Animal Rescue, Coco will be up for adoption in the coming weeks.
