PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Kevin Szmyd of Portsmouth, New Hampshire had a bright idea.

Before the ban on incandescent lights went into effect on August 1, he planned to go on an incandescent lightbulb shopping spree so he would never run out.

And that's exactly what he did.

25-year-old Szmyd spent about six weeks and $1,700 to hoard more than 4,800 lightbulbs, enough to last him 75 years.

New federal regulations banned incandescent lightbulbs so people will be using LED lightbulbs that are supposed to be more energy efficient and better for the environment.

But Szmyd is a big fan of incandescent lightbulbs saying they are far superior to LEDs.

WBZ's Chaiel Shaffel (@CShaffelWBZ) reports.
