BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Former Marriott Hotel employees of have been picketing every month outside the Marriott Hotel in Copley Square, and they were out there again this week despite the snowstorm.
The hotel workers were furloughed almost a year ago due to the coronavirus pandemic.
When their unemployment ran out in September, they learned those furloughs were permanent.
Profirio Pena said he was furloughed by the Marriott Copley last spring after working 24 years with the company. He said it felt like he'd been "thrown out like trash."
The picketers say they've been denied the severance pay they were promised by the company, and they have been told to reapply for the jobs they lost.
However, many of them said they fear they'll never get chance to return.
