BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Before the Red Sox kick off to take on the Los Angeles Angels at Fenway Wednesday night, pregame ceremonies will formally induct music legend Paul McCartney into the Fenway Music Hall of Fame.

Red Sox officials say the Fenway Music Hall of Fame honors artists with multiple successful shows at the ballpark.

“Since 2009, Paul McCartney has been an incredible addition to our Fenway Park concert series,” said Red Sox President and CEO Sam Kennedy, “Today’s ceremony is our small way of paying tribute to a music legend who has shared his incredible music with our fans in Boston. We look forward to his return for his fifth and sixth shows this summer.”

Fans who bought a game ticket through the Red Sox official site were offered commemorative "Got Back Tour" pennants.

Fenway officials say McCartney is the second person to be inducted into the Fenway Music Hall of Fame, the first was Billy Joel back in 2019.

Though McCartney was not in attendance at Wednesday's game, officials say he will be performing at his two upcoming shows at the ballpark, scheduled for June 7 and June 8, 2022.
