REVERE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Pay to stay: that's the idea behind the new parking meters being installed along the boulevard at Revere Beach.
Starting on May 1, 2021 -- those who want to catch some rays at the beach will have to pay $1.25 per hour to park between Eliot Circle and Carey Circle. Patrons can pay by coin, card or through a smartphone app.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, a "significant portion of revenues" from the meters will be used to support the statewide park system. The installation is just one part of a grander plan to expand parking collections across parkways and other areas in the Greater Boston region.
One beach-goer said she is not a fan of the new measure.
“It was always a public beach, the first public beach," she said. "I know they could use the money but I really hope – I was hoping they didn’t put the meters in.”
Another patron, however, said that the meters might be good for the area.
"I do see people parked here for a while and I’m sure that this might alleviate that type of congestion,” she said.
Some lanes along the Revere Beach Boulevard may be closed at times to accommodate the meter installation through the later half of April.
