Police Arrest Suspect In Fatal Plymouth Forest Shooting

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A man was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in a Plymouth forest, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced Sunday.

John Geovanni Pires Monteiro Macedo, 20, was located at an apartment in New Bedford and taken into custody without incident on Saturday. Monteiro Macedo has been charged with one count of Murder.

Officials said on the afternoon of July 12, Plymouth police received several 911 calls for a report of a shooting at Myles Standish State Forest and a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Upon arrival, officers and first responders located the victim, Robert Aponte-Flores, 25, of New Bedford, and transported him to Beth Israel Deaconess-Plymouth Hospital where he was pronounced dead of his injuries.

According to investigators. multiple witnesses on scene described that an altercation took place in a picnic area of the park between the victim and Monteiro Macedo, prior to the shooting. As a result, Massachusetts State Police issued a warrant for Monteiro Macedo's arrest.

Monteiro Macedo will be arraigned in Plymouth District Court.
