Police Say Lawrence Liquor Store Had 61 Underage Customers In 3 Days

LAWRENCE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Lawrence Police have charged a liquor store with selling alcohol to minors on as part of an investigation.

"Operation Fireball" was drawn up after Lawrence Police received complaints about underage customers at Mt. Vernon Liquors, on Broadway and Mt. Vernon Streets.

Police said the investigation, run in partnership with the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission, found that 61 minors had tried to buy alcohol over the course of three days.

Law enforcement did not specify when the operation happened, but did say they seized 16 fake IDs and 37 cases of liquor bound for minors.

Mt. Vernon Liquors will be charged with 8 counts of selling alcohol to minors and will need to appear before state and city licensing boards.

Chief Roy Vasque said the operation was particularly timely, with the state in the middle of High School Prom and Graduation season.
