REVERE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Winds swept the colorful kites off the sand and into the bright blue sky at the seventh annual Revere Beach Kite Festival on Sunday. Across from Kelly's Roast Beef off Revere Beach Boulevard, the "Around the World" themed festival gave the first 300 kids a free kite to decorate and launch high above onlookers. The Revere Beach Partnership hosted the event, and encouraged all attendees to bring their own kites to fly among the pack of professional kite-flyers.

One parent named Kevin says this year's festival was his first one. "I guess they have it every year- I'm more excited than the kids," Kevin said.

As the crafting got underway, kite-enthusiasts were surrounded by live music and local vendors, to kick off the season on the first public beach in the United States.

"We have been running the kite festival for close to a decade, and it seems to be getting bigger and bigger every year," said RBP President Kristen Karshis. After pandemic cancellations, and a smaller version of the festival last year, the Karshis says that the RBP is glad to be back at full throttle.

The next beach-related events from the RBP include the International Sand Sculpting Festival in July, and the Art Festival in September.
