MALDEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts State Police say a service rifle was stolen overnight from a cruiser parked in Malden. The cruiser was parked and locked outside of a Malden condo complex.

Police say it looks like whoever took the rifle broke into the cruiser by force, and that it was in a mount when it was taken. State Police Spokesman David Procopio said there was no indication that the rifle was used after being stolen.

Procopio would not comment on how the cruiser was connected to the complex, or if the trooper assigned to it lived there.

The investigation is ongoing.
