Rockport Keeps 122 Year Old Santa Tradition Alive Despite COVID-19

ROCKPORT, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A 122 year old Christmas tradition was alive and well in Rockport on Christmas morning, albeit with a slightly different look.

The Christmas Tree Committee of Rockport has brought Santa to town through two world wars and the last global pandemic in 1918.

The coronavirus pandemic wasn't going to stand in the way of Old Saint Nick this Christmas either. He was spotted Friday morning posing for pictures with kids in Rockland from eight feet away.

Committee Chair Buddy Wood said the kids didn't seem to mind having to keep their distance this year.

"They know Santa was there for them, and they're keeping their distance with the understanding this is the way it has to be," he said. "And they're walking away really happy."
