Safety Changes Made At Northeastern Parking Garage In Wake Of Deaths

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — New safety measures have been put in place at a Northeastern University parking garage in the wake of recent tragedies.

The Renaissance Parking Garage on Columbus Ave. was the site of three gruesome deaths on Christmas Day last year when West Roxbury resident Erin Pascal killed her two young children and then herself in a likely double murder-suicide.

Earlier in 2019, Boston College student Alexander Urtula committed suicide at the garage on his graduation day.

To help prevent further tragic deaths, the garage has installed top-to-bottom fencing that blocks both access points to the open roof on the ninth floor.

Access to the top two floors has also been shut off to both vehicles and pedestrians, while signage containing the National Suicide Prevention Hotline number, (800) 273-8255, has been posted on all levels.

There will also be a Northeastern police officer present in the garage at all times to monitor the roof.
