BROOKLINE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — When Lee Loechler brought his then-girlfriend to see the 1959 Disney classic "Sleeping Beauty" at Coolidge Corner Theatre two weeks ago, the film had an ending she'd never seen before.
Loechler asked his high school sweetheart, Sthuthi David, to marry him in an elaborate proposal involving the movie, which had been altered to include the two of them. The whole thing was filmed and posted on YouTube.
"For the past six months, I've been working with an illustrator to animate my girlfriend and myself into her favorite movie, Sleeping Beauty," Loechler wrote in a caption on the YouTube post.
An illustrator drew Lee and Sthuthi in place of Prince Charming and Sleeping Beauty. As Sthuthi watched their animated doppelgangers, confused, the on-screen prince planted a kiss and pulled out a ring before tossing it off-screen.
That's when Loechler stood up and caught the real ring, dropped to his knee, and proposed.
"It's not every day you get to propose to your high school sweetheart, so I just wanna take my time and savor this moment," Lee said.
"Oh my God, these poor people," she said, thinking the crowd was made up entirely of strangers.
"They're all in on it," Lee answered, before she turns around to see her friends and family, who were hiding in the dark until the question was popped.
Don't worry—she said yes to Lee, and to a happily ever after.
