SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new submarine sandwich at Somerville's Mortadella Head has gone viral.

The pizza and sub shop at Davis Square has been posting videos on TikTok for over a year, but the new chopped Caesar salad sub is taking the social media app by storm. Videos of the sub have nearly 20 million views.

"I thought it was crazy," said co-owner Chuck Sillari. "Why are all these people so excited about a little pizza shop in Somerville, Massachusetts, I don’t know, but it’s great. I’m glad they love it."

Sillari told WBZ NewsRadio that he came up with the chopped Ceasar sub--a sub roll with garlic butter, lettuce, chicken cutlet, prosciutto, cheese, and dressing--while thinking up new specials to add to the menu.

"Garlic bread is kind of like a crouton, so my idea was let’s make a big crouton and load it up with chopped Caesar," Sillari said.

The sandwich has attracted a lot of eyeballs online and a lot of stomachs in person, including visitors from around the world.

"A few places in Europe, all over the United States, I think we’ve had some people from India come in," Sillari listed. "So I think it’s people who are in Boston and they put us on their bucket list."
