South Coast Police Chief Facing Charges For Allegedly Drinking And Driving

MATTAPOISETT, MASS. (WBZ NewsRadio) — According to Massachusetts State Police, Mattapoisett Police Chief Mary Lyons was arrested on an OUI liquor charge in Bourne late Saturday night.

Officials say the 61-year-old was also cited for a marked lanes violation. At around 11 P.M. on Saturday, a State Police trooper pulled over Lyons after she was allegedly driving a 2014 Lexus erratically on Route 28 North in Bourne.

The officer then approached the vehicle and "made observations of the operator."

The trooper gave Lyons a field sobriety test and determined that she was intoxicated and she was booked at the Bourne Barracks.

According to State Police Director of Media Communications Dave Procopio, a bail clerk released Lyons on "personal recognizance

Her arraignment is pending in Falmouth District Court.
