BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston residents who have not yet received their federal coronavirus stimulus check can now turn to the city's tax professionals to get free help.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Mayor Marty Walsh said there are still a number of people in Boston who have not gotten the check from the Trump Administration's first COVID-19 stimulus package.
"We want to make sure that Bostonians have equitable access to benefits from federal and state sources," said Walsh. "For example, we learned that our low income residents are having difficulty getting the $1200 federal stimulus check they're eligible for."
Walsh said if a resident does not file tax returns, they have to apply for the money separately, and the process can be "very confusing." In response to the issue, the city has set up a Stimulus Hotline.
Residents who need help receiving their stimulus check can call 781-399-5330, or call 311 to get connected. Walsh said there is also the option to get help online at BostonTaxHelp.Org
The hotline and website are staffed by the Boston Tax Help Coalition, which is a partnership of nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations that provide free tax services every Spring.
"We want every Boston resident who is eligible to receive this money, we want you to receive it," said Walsh. "It will help them out, and it will also be a shot in the arm for our local economy."
