BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Suspended Boston Police Commissioner Dennis White has filed a motion in court to stop his ousting -- alleging that his rights are being violated.
Just days after he was installed in February, White was placed on administrative leave -- while the city investigated decades-old sexual assault allegations made by his ex-wife.
During a press conference on Friday, Acting Boston Mayor Kim Janey said an investigation into those allegations revealed a "culture of fear and silence within the Boston Police Department."
"This investigation of Dennis White reveals a flawed process and a misguided department culture," Janey said. "Dennis White’s admitted behavior does not reflect our values. It is clear from the report that we have to move in a different direction."
Janey said that the city planned on holding a hearing to oust White from his role as commissioner, but White has since filed a court motion to stop that process.

According to the complaint, White alleges that his rights are being violated because the final report from the investigation was based on hearsay, Janey did not provide White with "due and meaningful notice" before planning to terminate him, and the allegations were already resolved in court.
“Acting Mayor Janey has notified Commissioner White that she intends to terminate him and promote Superintendent Nora Baston to Commissioner -- Commissioner Dennis White doesn’t oppose Nora Baston and applauds her success," White's Attorney Nick Carter said in a statement. "However, the decision today is wrong. There is already a Boston Police Commissioner, Dennis White."
Carter added that White is "being treated very badly and in violation of the law," citing that he is only the second Black man to hold the title of police commissioner in Boston's history.
As of now there is no set date for a court proceeding -- and Greg Long is still serving as both Chief of Police and Acting BPD Commissioner.
