Teenager Killed In New Year's Crash On Route 95 South In Warwick, R.I.

WARWICK, R.I (WBZ NewsRadio) — Rhode Island State Police said that they responded to a two-car crash on Route 95 South in Warwick just after midnight on New Year's Day.

Police said in a statement to WBZ NewsRadio that investigation revealed that a Mercedes was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a Nissan and forced it off the highway, where it traveled down the embankment, struck a tree and rolled over.

Officials said the operator of the crashed Nissan, a 17-year-old juvenile, was pronounced dead on scene by Warwick Rescue personnel.

Though the operator of the Mercedes allegedly fled on foot following the incident, investigators at the crash site identified him as 30-year-old Aramis Segura of Charlestown, R.I. Officials said they located Segura at his residence and transported him to State Police Headquarters where he was processed and arraigned.

Officials said that Segura was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, driving to endanger- resulting in death, obstruction of justice, and operating on a suspended license. Segura's bail was set at $10,000 with surety, police said.

Segura was also presented as a Superior Court probation violator on a previous charge of Breaking and Entering and was transported to the Adult Correctional Institution, where he is being held.
