SALEM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — There could be a new way to get around Salem this summer because the "Witch City" could soon be a new hub for the Bluebikes Program.
The city is hoping to work out a deal with Bluebikes to bring bike sharing back to the Witch City, with the help of a state grant.
To get the program started, the city council would have to approve the spending of $50,000 for it. Salem's Traffic Director Dave Kucharsky said the program would help reduce traffic congestion in the city.
"We believe if we can give people other options, that could help reduce to an extend the volumes but also to give people other options that are more sustainable," said Kucharksy.

He added from an environmental standpoint, Bluebikes are a good option.
Salem had a bicycle ride-share program with Zagster, but that company didn't make it through the pandemic.
The new program would call for 50 bicycles stationed at eight locations around the city.
