BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston feels like the center of the universe on St. Patrick's Day, and for all intents and purposes, it just might be. Here's a list of five things to do on St. Patrick's Day weekend in and around the city.

  • The South Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade: A storied Boston tradition like no other. Technically called the South Boston St. Patrick's Day/Evacuation Day Parade, the event is filled with pomp and circumstance and a fun, rowdy atmosphere. Crowds pack the streets to watch the marching bagpipers and firetrucks stream by. The event is back to its full route after a shortened route stirred controversy last year. The parade has taken place in South Boston for more than a century. Sunday at 1 p.m.
  • Dropkick Murphys: The legendary hometown rockers are back with their usual St. Paddy's Day Weekend concert series, but are splitting up the venues this year. They're playing three shows at the new MGM Music Hall at Fenway and one at the traditional House of Blues. MGM Music Hall at Fenway and the Boston House of Blues, various times.
  • St. Patrick's Day Parade Pre-Party: SoWa Boston is hosting a pre-parade event that's giving out a free drinks, food and games before the parade kicks off. SoWa Power Station, Sunday at 9 a.m.
  • St. Patrick's Day at Boston's Bars: Dozens of bars across the city are holding St. Patrick's Day specials and events all weekend. That includes The Burren, which is holding St. Patrick's Day Variety Dinner shows every two hours all weekend long. The Black Rose is also another classic spot.
  • Irish Breakfast at Amrheins: The self-proclaimed "oldest bar and restaurant in Southie" is serving up traditional Irish breakfasts on St. Patrick's Day weekend, and our reporter James Rojas gave a review.

For the holiday, WBZ's James Rojas went to check out the Black Rose on State Street, which was packed to the brim with green and pints galore.
