BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Thousands of people went to City Hall Plaza to ring in the New Year.
The celebration was centered around City Hall Plaza this year, with live music, dancing and, of course, the ice sculptures. The First Night festivities are usually in Copley Square, which is currently under construction.
Many of those who came to the city to celebrate used public transportation, which was free after 8 P.M.
“We took the T. You don’t drive into Boston any time, if you can avoid it,” said Elliot of Newton.
Some people like to avoid the hectic night in the city, but not Elliot.
“I like to see the ice sculptures and I enjoy seeing people be happy in a rather difficult time,” said Elliot.
There were 13 hours of live music, with Boston-based rapper Sammy Adams closing the show.
“I love it. The music is fantastic,” said Peter, who was born and raised in Boston.
The organized portion of the night culminated in fireworks over Boston Harbor when the city entered 2024.
