LOWELL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The founder of a residential rehab facility for young women is accused of assault and attempted rape.
Tim Grover, the 55-year-old founder of Megan's House, faced a judge in Lowell District Court Tuesday morning. He is charged with assault with intent to rape and resisting arrest, and was ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing.
He's accused of following a victim into Lowell High School Monday and assaulting them there, before allegedly assaulting two others. One of the alleged victims was a Lowell High teacher.
Prosecutor Greg Galizio described what Grover is alleged to have done.
"The defendant appeared to be highly intoxicated and mumbled words to the affect of 'You should call the police'," Galizio told the court. "When she asked why that she should call the police, the defendant followed her behind the desk and said, 'Because someone is going to rape you.' When she asked who was going to rape you, the defendant said, 'I am'."
WBZ NewsRadio has reached out to Lowell Schools about their security. Tuesday was the first day of school in Lowell.
Grover then allegedly assaulted a student and custodian who tried to interfere, and fought with police and park rangers outside.
"He threatened multiple officers, threatened to shoot them, threatened to rape them," Galizio said.
Grover has been featured on WBZ NewsRadio in the past as a caring father who lost a daughter to an overdose. Megan's House, the nonprofit he founded, is a residential treatment home for women ages 18-26.
Megan's House said in a statement that they severed ties with their founder completely 18 months ago.
"There is nothing more important to the staff, leadership and board of The Megan House than creating a safe and supportive environment for the young women we serve," their statement read. "Should any past resident, employee or contractor associated with The Megan House have any concerns, we ask that these concerns be reported immediately to the police."
