BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The MBTA Transit Police say a group of teenagers assaulted a 66-year-old man at Downtown Crossing on Monday night.

Police said six or seven teenagers were hanging around in the station, pointing Nerf guns at bystanders. They allegedly started shooting one of the passengers who came through the Orange Line turnstiles with the toy guns, hitting him in the head. The man and the group of teens started to argue, and police said the teens then started punching the man, eventually throwing him against a wall as they beat him.

The group then fled the scene, getting on to a Red Line train heading south. Transit Police found the group at JFK-UMass Station in Dorchester, and arrested three of them on charges of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon on a Victim Over 60.

Police said the victim's head was injured in the alleged assault and he needed to be taken to a local hospital for treatment.
