Man Arrested In Assault At Back Bay Station

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — MBTA Transit Police arrested a man they said beat another man at Back Bay Station on the Orange Line Saturday.

TPD said Anthony Zaniboni, 33, struck the 62-year-old victim on the back of the head as he stood on the platform at Back Bay around 9:30 a.m.

After the victim fell to the ground, TPD said, Zaniboni struck him several more times on the face and head, and then took his sunglasses.

Officers searched for Zaniboni but weren't able to find him right away. Thanks to a detailed witness description, he was found around noon at Summer and Chauncey Streets, and taken into custody.

Transit Police said he admitted to the robbery, and had the victim's sunglasses on him when he was arrested.

Zaniboni was found to have several warrants out for his arrest out of Boston Municipal Court for assault and battery on a police officer, assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of property, and trespassing.
