Travel Mag: Nantucket Is The Most Expensive Beach Destination In The World

NANTUCKET, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The most expensive beach destination in the world is just off the coast of mainland Massachusetts.

TravelMag.com recently ranked Nantucket at the top of its list of priciest beach locales. The website considered all destinations worldwide that had a minimum of 20 hotels and inns, and at least one beach. For each destination, TravelMag calculated the average price for the cheapest available double room during the month of August. Only hotels rated at least three stars and located close to the town/city center or beach were considered.

Nantucket secured the number one spot at $694 per night, the website said.

Positano, on southern Italy’s Amalfi Coast, came in second place at $481 per night. Montauk, a village on the Long Island peninsula, is third, coming in at $478 per night. France's Saint-Tropez rounded out the top four at an average of $440 per night.

Other New England beach destinations to make the top 20 were Kennebunkport, Maine ($405), Provincetown, Massachusetts ($404), Bar Harbor, Maine ($384), and Portland, Maine ($317).
