BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – Used needles and criminal activity at a Boston park have forced one Pop Warner Football program to practice at a new field.

The Boston Bengals used to call Clifford Park home. Although, after constantly needing to pick up used needles and deal other drug and criminal activity, coaches put together a new game plan.

The Boston Globe reports the Bengals have merged with another Pop Warner team in Brookline, the Jamaica Plain Patriots, so they do not have to put themselves at risk anymore practicing at Clifford Park.

Acting Mayor Kim Janey told The Globe that Street Outreach and Mobile Sharps Teams conduct collections daily to ensure safe use of the park.

"We are taking actions to improve both public health and public safety in the neighborhood hardest hit by the drug crisis,” Janey said.

However, Bengals coaches are calling for an increased police presence and more treatment centers for those facing addiction.

WBZ’s James Rojas (@JamesRojasWBZ) was at the field in Roxbury, which is located close to the infamous intersection of "Mass and Cass":
