Victim In Somerville Shooting Is Reportedly 16-Year-Old Girl

SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Somerville Police are investigating after a 16-year-old girl was reportedly shot early Monday morning. WBZ-TV reports the girl was walking her dog at the time.

Somerville Police said the incident happened shortly after 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Jacques and Grant Streets. Police found a juvenile victim who was suffering from a gunshot wound. The teen was taken to a hospital in critical, but stable condition.

"All I knew was when she was walking the dog there was a white BMW and the guy was stopping and saying something," the victim's father told WBZ-TV. "That's when they did the fire. Fired the shots."

Her father said he was "very emotional" when he saw her. The 16-year-old is currently recovering from surgery.

Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone wrote on Twitter that he is "furious" about the incident, and that "you should be too."

“We’re bringing every available resource to bear on stopping gunfire in our community. These are our neighborhoods and safety is not option,” Curtatone wrote.
