Video Game Could Help With COVID-19 Brain Fog, Local Company Says

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A local biotech company says a therapy it developed for ADHD could be used to cure a symptom of COVID-19. "Brain fog," is a general sense of confusion and trouble concentrating, and has been reported as is one of the long-lasting effects of COVID-19.

Akili Interactive of Boston says a video game therapy that it developed may also help with brain fog. Akili's video game therapy, called "EndeavorRx," has already been approved by the FDA for treating ADHD in children.

Dr. Anil Jina, Akili's Chief Medical Officer, said that brain fog is "becoming more of a public health issue because people are recognizing it and complaining about it."

"The type of dysfunction that people are seeing with COVID is very, very similar to the type of effects that we have seen in our research in other areas of cognitive function," he said.

A study to see if the video game therapy will work with COVID brain fog sufferers is underway with Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Weill Cornell Medicine, and New York Presbyterian hospital.

That study should have results by the end of the year.
