BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Today marks the Summer Solstice; the longest day of the year, and temperatures are expected to hover in the 90's across the Commonwealth for the official start of the Summer season.
In preparation for the crowds expected at state beaches and parks, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation has announced it has now resumed waterfront services.
That includes "regularly scheduled water quality tests, ropes and buoys in place, and the start of staffing lifeguards at many swimming locations."
The department also recently opened spray decks, playgrounds, and fitness areas for the public.

The DCR said its inland and ocean beach services will be provided in accordance with the safety standards listed in Phase Two of the state's reopening plan.
There will be several guidelines for visitors to public outdoor spaces in Massachusetts, including:
- Visitors are asked to maintain at least 6 feet distance from other groups at all times
- Beach capacity will be managed to accommodate a minimum of 12 feet distance between toweling/beach blanket groups
- Toweling/Beach blanket groups are limited to groups no larger than 10 people
- Wear a face mask or facial covering when social distancing cannot be practiced
- The public is asked to participate in only non-contact recreational activities; no contact-ball games allowed
- Leave a park or facility if large gatherings begin to build; and,
- Stay home if ill, over 70, and/or part of a vulnerable population.
