Weekend Storms Expected Across New England

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — "Strong to severe storms" are expected across New England this weekend, bringing much-needed rainfall to regions currently experiencing moderate drought conditions.

According to WBZ-TV, as of last week about 55 percent of Massachusetts was in what is considered a "moderate drought."

More than 72 percent of New Hampshire moved from "abnormally dry to moderate drought" this week, and the same was true for around 47 percent of Maine.

Before noon on Saturday, severe storms had crossed into the western part of the Commonwealth. The National Weather Service Boston said most of Saturday's rainfall was expected south of the Mass Pike.

Storms are expected to continue across Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire throughout Saturday evening, with scattered thunderstorms predicted on Sunday.

NWS Boston said there is a small craft advisory around Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard from Saturday 7 p.m. until Sunday at noon.
