WHITMAN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The U.S. Women's Soccer Team moved on to the semi-finals on Friday, after defeating the Netherlands in a penalty kick shootout.

A pub in Whitman was packed with people cheering on Team USA, as well as two local sisters from Hanson.

McGuiggin's Pub on Washington Street was roaring with excitement when Team USA beat the Netherlands.

Spectators cheered on Kristie and Samantha Mewis, who today are being called heroes.

Kerry Flood played with the girls while at Whitman-Hanson High School. "Sam and Kristie worked so hard, they deserve this, to see their names on the roaster was truly inspiring," said Flood.

Fans, friends, and family were at the pub to cheer them on, including Sam's father-in-law Chris Johnson. "We're so proud of them, Sam and Kristie and the rest of the ladies on the team. They do a lot of hard work and deserve every bit of it," said Johnson.

That pride was felt inside the pub throughout the match. Now, it's on to the semi-finals of the Olympic Games for Team USA.
