BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — St. Vincent Hospital is serving as clinical partner for the large-scale vaccination site that just opened up at Worcester State University.
Nurses, however, are planning to strike in the near future after union negotiations stalled.
Marie Ritacco, Vice President of the Massachusetts Nurses Association, said the union is aware of concerns the strike could affect COVID-19 vaccine distribution around Worcester.
"We're still looking at that, to understand what the impact would be for us," Ritacco said. "Because they are the employer that we would be striking against... I think there are some legal questions here about liability for us."
According to Ritacco, Tenet Healthcare, owner of St. Vincent Hospital, has stopped all negotiations.
Tenet said it's working on contingency plans and is not sure of the impact, if any, of the vaccine clinic at WSU.
Senator Ed Markey said he will join some of the 800 striking nurses on the picket line outside the hospital Thursday afternoon.
