WILMINGTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — State and local police have confirmed that they are investigating a fatal car crash that happened on Saturday afternoon.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Wilmington Chief of Police Joseph Desmond said the crash happened on Industrial Way around 2:30 p.m. The area was closed to through traffic after the crash, said the police in initial reports.

Preliminary investigations into the crash suggested that the driver, 18-year-old Kevin Stano of Wilmington, was driving around a bend in the road when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a telephone pole.

Stano, who was the only person in the car, was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead.

The investigation is still ongoing and is being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Wilmington Police Department, the Massachusetts State Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, and the State Crime Scene Services Section.
