Seven Hurt In Worcester Triple Decker Blaze

WORCESTER (WBZ NewsRadio) — Seven people were hospitalized after an early morning fire tore through a Worcester triple decker.

The fire started around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at the eight-unit home on Merrifield Street.

Crews had to act fast, rescuing five people using ladders.

"There was smoke throughout the whole building, there were multiple people hanging out of various windows," Worcester Deputy Fire Chief Andrew White said.

Three of the seven hospitalized had serious injuries.

In all, 15 people were displaced.

The cause of the fire, which is believed to have started on the first floor, was not yet known.
