Worcester Police Release 911 Call With Man Claiming To Have A Bomb

WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Worcester Police have released a 911 call with a man who was shot and killed during a standoff with police last month.

Phet Gouvonvong, 31, told officials on a 911 call that he had a bomb in a backpack and that he was headed to Grafton Street. The call lasted at least 20 minutes.

On the call, he could be heard saying, “Tell the cops that I’m armed. And don’t kill me ‘cause I don’t want to blow up, and I don’t want nobody to get hurt at all.”

Gouvonvong also asked the dispatcher why police hadn’t arrived to the scene yet. “Why isn’t there a car here? That’s insane to me,” he said.

Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early said when police did arrive on the scene on Grafton Street, officers made a "lengthy attempt" to negotiate with Gouvonvong. A police officer shot and killed Gouvonvong after he apparently started walking toward officers.

The DA's Office is still investigating.
