1 Worker Dies, 1 Suffers Injuries After A Stairwell Collapses In Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — One worker has died and another is in critical condition after a stairwell collapsed at a construction site in Cambridge.

Cambridge police said the victims were doing restoration work at a city-owned parking garage on Spring Street near Second Street.

The incident happened at 8:23 a.m. on Wednesday.

Cambridge Fire Chief Gerry Mahoney said that the stairwell was “being disassembled because [it] was being replaced.”

The two men were working on the second floor of the garage.

Mahoney stated that the worker who survived was rushed to the hospital with serious chest and arm injuries.
