BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – A child was hurt during a hit-and-run in Dorchester Wednesday morning at the intersection of Columbia Road and Intervale Street.

Boston Police told WBZ-TV that the child was taken to an areal hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers responded to the scene just before 7:30 a.m. where they found the child suffering from undisclosed injuries. Police said the driver reportedly took off from the scene.

Boston Police are now looking for the vehicle identified in the crash from surveillance footage. The white GMC-SUV is said to have damage to it's front passenger quarter panel, passenger side headlight and hood. It also has two sunroofs and a roof rack.

A woman who lives nearby told WBZ-TV the impact from the collision left the boy pinned underneath her car, which was parked on the corner.

“He was underneath where the exhaust was, so I didn’t want to move it,” she said. “They were able to nudge him from underneath the car until the fire department got here.”

The woman estimated the boy to be around 10 years old. She said it was unclear if the boy was trying to cross the street or was just standing near the sidewalk.

The woman also told WBZ-TV the intersection is close to a school and people repeatedly do not stop when passing through.

“Something needs to be done,” she said. “I hope he’s ok. I hope the person gets caught. I don’t understand how you can just hit a child like that and leave. It doesn’t make any sense to me.”
